Pratt Fine Arts CenterAbout Shruti
Shruti Ghatak was born and raised in India and received her Master of Fine arts degree in Painting from New York Studio School, NY and an MS in Organic Chemistry (specialized in Color technology) from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India. She has an interdisciplinary background and studied both Science and Art with the belief that crossing boundary sometimes open up new ways of seeing.
Themes addressed in her works are the tension of personal struggle with alienation, social inequality, juxtaposition of folklore and mythology with contemporary culture and memory. She enjoys drawing and painting a variety of subjects from life, memory and imagination including figures, landscapes, still life and portraits.
She exhibited nationally and internationally including Hackett Mill Gallery, CA, Prince Street Gallery, NYC, Montclaire Art Museum, NJ. Birla Academy of Art and Culture, India, Ganges Art Gallery, India, Shoreline City Hall Gallery, WA and Center on Contemporary Art, Seattle.
Shruti currently lives and works in Seattle, WA.
